Hello dear friends and readers!!
I am writing
this blog post to celebrate the birthday of this dear blog! On the 22nd
of June 2014, this blog was created. And it has come a long way since
then. And it will keep going! I know it's the 27th by the time you read this, but last Monday was the 22nd!
Now I wasn't sure what I
could do to celebrate this blog's anniversary, other than just typing
"Happy birthday" and all that jazz. I mean, what else could you do? And
so I decided, maybe I'll tell them everything there is to this blog. I decided, every year that passes, I'll write something that you guys don't know about this blog. For example, the first secret I will answer to: Why create a blog? You know,
things like that. It should fun, and should reveal to you many secrets
that have yet to be uncovered.
I actually don't
remember why I wanted to create a blog like this one. I guess in a broad
answer, I wanted to write a blog such as this one so that I could share
life in my eyes. I wanted to write things that maybe people who were
reading my posts could relate to. I wanted to share things, get away from the world. And as a bonus, I was bored!
Now, I also decided to put it a little "Tidbit Time" for you all!

A Blast of Books
Hello everyone,
I've been recently buying a lot of books, and I don't think I ever bought these many books in the span of... let's say a couple months. I was wondering what to write on this blog for this week, and then I looked at my bookcase, and thought, why not share the books I recently bought? So today's post will be, not a book haul, but not surely a whole bunch of book reviews. I call it a blast of books! This will not be in particular order.

The first book on the list is Cinder by Marissa Meyer! I got this as a birthday present, and I finished reading it. I really liked this book, and it was a fast read for me! Cinder is like, another version of Cinderella, mixed with dystopia and robots/cyborgs.

The next book is The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm pretty sure this is the second book of the first, which is called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, I think? Anyways, I finished reading it a while back. I loved it! I love mysteries, and so I really liked reading this book. Inside the book are 12 short stories, the last one being so emotional for me! The last short story is called "The Final Problem", ooh. All the Post-Its are the words I don't know, so I write down the word and then I'll write the definition of it, and I put it on a wall in my room. My "word wall" hihi.

The next is The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand. I finished reading this a while back as well, and it was a pretty quick read. I never really planned on buying this book, but I took too long to pick a book to buy, and I skimmed the synopsis of this book and it seemed pretty interesting, so I just grabbed it. It may sound gloomy, but this book is about a girl coping and recovering from the death of her younger brother, who committed suicide. I don't usually read this kind of book, but I decided to "branch out", and start reading other types of books. I liked reading this book!

I am currently reading this book, and it is called Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong. Now to be honest, I bought this book simply because they were selling it at Costco, and they were selling it for literally half the price of what they would sell it for at another bookstore! The book is a fantasy novel, and I'm not really into fantasy, but I said before that I'm "branching out". Sea of Shadows is... kind of confusing for me to explain, but basically it's about two sisters, twins, who are the Keeper and Seeker, who try to calm down the spirits of the Forest of the Dead. But then "the spirits will not be quieted". The twins are separated, and they have to try to find each other again. So far it's pretty interesting.

Next on the list is The Little Woods McCormick Templeman. I haven't started reading this yet, but it sounds pretty... intriguing! So if I read the synopsis correctly, it's about this girl Cally who is transferred to this very "elite, tough" boarding school. The boarding school, however, is where her sister and her friend disappeared from. And then later Cally discovers that another girl disappeared from that school as well. Now Cally is interested in this, and thinks that all three disappearances are linked together, so now she wants to figure out why. Oooh. That sounds like a mystery to me, and who loves a mystery?!

This was another birthday gift. This is Crossed, the second book in the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie. I don't have Matched, and I haven't read it either haha! So I haven't read this yet, obviously. I also don't know what it's about. I mean, I have little clue. I'm pretty sure it's a "dystopian society" kind of book, where society chooses your "love of your life". I'm excited to read this though, because it's pretty popular.

This was also another birthday present! I haven't read this book yet either, but it sounds pretty good though. It is called Also Known As, by Robin Benway. It's about this teenage girl who's a spy, and her first assignment is to attend a high school undercover for a mission. I'm pretty excited to read this book. It should be fun reading about the life of a teenage girl working undercover!

Last but certainly not least, because this is one of my favourite reads, is To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han!! I have been eyeing this book for a long time, and I finally bought it, a birthday present for me! I read it and I really liked it, loved it even. It's about this girl who writes love letters to all the guys she's ever liked before, but she doesn't send them. Until one day it is sent. And then a whole lot of drama goes down. And I really enjoyed it! Ah!
I will try to write a book review for each of these books! I hope you enjoyed reading this post. I also hope you have a sudden urge to start reading a book as well, haha.

The Thermopylae Race
Hello everyone,
This week I participated in this really cool event called the Thermopylae Race. If this isn't a cool name, then I don't know what is.
The Thermopylae is basically this obstacle course, and it's a whole lot of fun! It was 4.6 km long, with two- I repeat- TWO mud crawls! The obstacles were really fun but pretty tiring, heheh. We had to do stuff like, mountain climbers, pushups, situps, "Urpees" ("cousin of the burpee"), jump rope, bench dips, army crawls and back crawls, there was this obstacle that was called a "wall jump over", and those were only a couple obstacles I can think of off the top of my head! At the end of the race, I was covered in mud, and I had to get hosed off in my backyard before going in my house!
Even if you're not super fit (like me heheh), doing this kind of thing is really fun to do! Especially when you're doing it with your friends, like I did. You're doing exercise while also hanging with friends! Everyone would get a kick out of it and enjoy something like this.
Unfortunately, I don't have a photo from the race...
This was a pretty short post, but I hope you try participating in an extracurricular event in your town!

Like a Champion or Not?
Hello everybody,
I've been thinking about this topic for some time. When is it that we become too competitive?
A few weeks ago my school held this dodgeball tournament for the students. I played with my homeroom against another homeroom in our grade. The day before we played, both homerooms had this, "electricity" I'll say, between each other. We would say that our homeroom would win, and bring the other down and blah blah.
Honestly, I went along with it too. I would say stuff like "Get ready!" and "Be prepared on (the day we played)!". I said it just so that there could be some anticipation and "giddiness" before the game. Others would say things like "Be ready to get beat!" or "You're going down!" and "We will demolish you!", and that would definitely get some people pumped up. And then we played.
Despite some "threats" and our confidence, my homeroom was pretty much bark and no bite. We lost against the other homeroom, but we were really close to winning.
We didn't cheat, and it was a clean game. My class did feel some disappointment because we did want to win and move on to the finals. Also, our super strict teacher (aka my faaaave teacher) wanted us and expected us to win, but we didn't deliver that...
After the game, a few people from the other class came to say "good game" and all that jazz, but only a few. The rest? I'd rather not say... Though one particular person was actually really getting on my nerves. As we exited the gym, the person, who's also my friend, was behind me, and she kept repeating "We won, we won, we won, we won! I told you so! Told you so! Told you so!" on and on on.
I did want to say "Can you please stop?" because it was annoying me! She wouldn't stop repeating that! I didn't say what I wanted to say however, because if I did, some people would say that I'm a "sore loser". I've had people say that to me in the past. And I don't like being called that.
That same day, I passed by a friend who was in the homeroom that won against us, we're pretty good friends. He smiled at me and said "What was it you said about taking us down?". I laughed with him, until one of his classmates came and kept saying "Yeah? Huh? Huh? Huh?" and then I just had to leave.
That got me wondering. They might've won, but did they really? A lot of them took things really far after they won. And because of that, I felt angry about not winning against them. I told my friends "I'm bummed out we lost." and they said "It's just a game." In my head I was thinking I know it's just a game, but I'm still sad we lost! Especially because of the way the other class is acting.
I still haven't figured out the answer to the question I asked myself a while back. When is it that we become too competitive? Maybe I'll leave it unanswered, and you can think about it for yourselves. Whatever you think, it's okay to be happy if you win something, but don't take it too far. And if you ever lose something, just think that you can do better next time!
